Having a bad day?

First things first. Do not give up. One day out of a year is no reason to give up. If you are a numbers gal look at it this way, this bad day makes up 0.27% of your year. In the scheme of things stuffing up .27% isn't that big of a deal and isn't a reason to stop. You might be 5 years away from your business goal. That makes this bad day even less of a percentage.

However a bigger problem is the attitude I see some people and myself falling into. I sometimes write off the whole week. I say well that was super crap, so the whole week goes out the window. Even worse is when I see people writing off the year of chasing their goals because of one bad day or mistake. So how do we turn ourselves around from a catastrophically bad day, where goals and dreams seemed to have flown out the window?

  1. Be kind to yourself. You are not a robot. As much as I say write your goals and plan and follow it, there will be times were this doesn't happen. This is ok. Imagine how you would calm and support a friend going through your bad day. This is how you need to speak to yourself and this is how you need to support yourself on these days. I seriously doubt you'd be saying to your friend "give up now, you epic failure."

  2. Check for a silver lining. Many mistakes turn into great discoveries. Perhaps thorough this bad day you've seen a different side of something. Perhaps you've discovered by accident a new approach. Perhaps you've found supportive workmates who have your back. Maybe loosing a project gives you more time to focus on other important things. See if there is a positive side to your day. Sometimes, just learning how strong and resilient you are can be a positive.

  3. Reset and plan for tomorrow. Whatever has happened, whatever needs fixing, now is your time to plan for tomorrow. Sometimes seeing the steps you need to take to get yourself out of a mess or back on track can be the best comforter. So turn your mind from stress and focus it on tomorrow. What needs to happen to get things turned back around. What needs to happen so tomorrow is a good day.

  4. Believe in yourself. These bad days can knock your confidence around a little bit. So make sure you take some time to boost your self belief. Write a quick list of things you are great at. Look at some previously won awards, or achievements. Take a brief look to see how far you really have already come. Remind yourself how BOSS you are. Then get back on that horse beautiful human and have a wonderful tomorrow.
